Joseph Boyden, Nino Ricci, Wayson Choy, Terry Fallis, Lee Maracle and Kyo Maclear - Truer Words, a Benefit Reading for CJPME - September 2013

Six of Canada's top writers give a benefit reading for CJPME. The writers include: two-time Governor General 's Award winner Nino Ricci, Wayson Choy, Terry Fallis, Lee Maracle, Giller winner Joseph Boyden and Kyo Maclear. These six writers, along with Yann Martel, Michael Ondaatje, and Margaret Atwood, are among the over 100 Canadian authors who co-signed the Canadian Writers' Open Letter to Israeli and Canadian leaders this summer.

If you love either literature or justice, you’ll be gratified, and if you love both, this is an evening not to be missed!

The following writers will give brief readings of their published poetry or novels, or works in progress not yet published. Some may also be reading the poetry of Middle East writers:

• Joseph Boyden: Orenda; Through Black Spruce (Giller Prize); Three Day Road; From Mushkegowuk to New Orleans: A Mixed Blood Highway; Born with a Tooth
• Wayson Choy: Not Yet: A Memoir of Living and Almost Dying; All That Matters (Trillium Book Award; finalist, Giller Prize; longlisted IMPAC-Dublin Award); Paper Shadows: A Chinatown Childhood (Edna Staebler Award for Creative Non Fiction ; Finalist, Governor General’s Award); The Jade Peony. (Trillium Book Award, City of Vancouver Book Award). Member of the Order of Canada.
• Terry Fallis: Up and Down; The High Road; The Best Laid Plans (2008 Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour, Winner, CBC’s Canada Reads 2011 competition)
• Kyo Maclear: Stray Love (A Quill and Quire Favorite, 2012; NOW Magazine Top Ten Book of 2012; National Post Canadian Favorite of 2012); Virginia Wolf (Governor General’s Award for Children’s Literature, 2012); Mr. Flux; Spork; The Letter Opener. (Winner, Ontario Arts Council K.M. Hunter Artists Award)
• Lee Maracle: The First Wives Club: Coast Salish Style; Will's Garden; Daughters are Forever; Bent Box; Ravensong.
• Nino Ricci: The Origin of Species (Governor General's Award); Testament (Trillium Award); Where She Has gone; In a Glass House; Lives of the Saints (Governor General's Award). Member of the Order of Canada.
